Grade 5 and 6
Grade 5 and 6 are combined and there are two groups. We focused on patterns, beginning with a collage. The intention was to take this into computer manipulation developing radial mirror patterns, but the new computer labs were not ready in time.
Radial patterns developed by folding and cutting. This was a fascinating exercise. skills and focus on: mirror reversal, folding, cutting skills. All the cut-out bits were collected for the next project.
This term was late winter/early spring. Trees in the playground where beginning to shoot new leaves. Learners drew the trees.
The drawn trees became templates for colourful cut out trees. These were stuck on the hideouspolystyrenetraysthatIneverknowwhattodowithotherthanmixpaintinandaren'trecyclable. The bits from the earlier cut-outs were then threaded across the tray as leaves.
The last stage was the framing which involved a hair raising initiation into using NT cutters. The first aid kit was close at hand.
